Arrival & departure dates; booking flights
We ask that you do not book your flights to Cape Town before you have received confirmation of acceptance onto the study abroad programme or acceptance at UCT as a full degree student.
We recommend the following arrival dates for first semester 2017:
For those beginning their full degree at UCT
Please check with your faculties for more details as some faculties start earlier than others.
Residences open on Monday 6th March 2017 for those whose programmes begin on the usual first day of classes for 2017, which is Monday 13th March 2017.
If you have a confirmed place in a UCT residence, but you plan to arrive in Cape Town earlier than the 6th March, you will need to make arrangements for alternative accommodation until the residences open on that date.
You can either arrange private accommodation in a local guesthouse, hotel or backpackers; or you can arrange vacation accommodation (at an additional fee) in one of the residences at UCT. Please contact the Vacation Accommodation Office to make these arrangements:

For Semester Study Abroad students attending UCT for the first semester in 2017
There are two parts to the Semester Study Abroad programme in the first semester 2017. Some students may elect to join the short Summer Programme before the main semester. This Summer Programme runs from 13th February 2017 to 10 March 2017, with the week before, from 8th to 12th February 2017 set aside for the orientation and registration programme. The main semester runs from 13th March 2017 to 14th July 2017, with the week before the start (6th to 12th March set aside for the orientation and registration programme. We recommend that students who are coming for the Summer Programme plan to arrive on the 7th or 8th February 2017.
We recommend that students who are coming only for the main semester should plan to arrive on the 4th or 5th March 2017.
We recommend that you plan your return flight no earlier than 14th July 2017, although you may need a week or so after this date to follow up on any exam queries.
Please note that, because of the later start to the first semester 2017, Semester Study Abroad students who need to return to their home countries to begin internships or summer employment, may leave Cape Town immediately after their lectures finish on 23 June 2017, and arrange to write their exams with an online or live proctor in their home country during the exam period, 28 June 2017 to 14 July 2017.
