Who can apply for U.S. Federal Aid?
Students who are American citizens or eligible non-citizens of the USA i.e. permanent residence of USA.
IAPO will clear you for payment of fees at pre-registration, provided your loan has been confirmed. You therefore do not have to pay the initial amount which is due prior to registrations or by latest Friday, 6th February 2015.
To apply for US Federal Aid (Direct Loan / Plus Loan) complete steps 1 - 4
Step 1 - Entrance counselling completed only once while at UCT
Complete the online Direct loan entrance counselling and /or Grad Plus loan entrance counselling here. Parents cannot complete the counselling sessions for their children.
Step 2 - FAFSA
Complete the 2014-2015 FAFSA here Free Application for Federal Student Aid. The UCT school code is G10084 or 010084.
Step 3 - Master Promissory Note
Complete the MPN online here StudentLoans.gov. The MPN is the legal document through which the student or parent promises to repay his or her D/L and any accrued interest and fees to the Department. It also explains the terms and conditions of the loan.
Step 4 - UCT application form
Print and complete the IAPO US Federal Aid Application form (see top right hand side, under Download) and fax or scan it to the International office. For an estimate of how much it will cost to study at UCT, click on the COA for more information.
Loan amount determined
UCT will determine the loan amount for which you are eligible and notify you via email.
The loan is originated/certified.
The loan is disbursed upon registration and attendance of classes.

The University will not disburse the second payout of funds without a Satisfactory Academic Progress report.
