Eligibility

General information: Eligibility: Overview

Federal Aid are only awarded to students registering for the following degree of study

  • Undergraduate degree except MBChB
  • Honours degree
  • Masters degree
  • PhD

Degrees of study that are NOT awarded Federal Aid

  • MBChB
  • Nursing programmes
  • All other medical degrees programmes
  • Diploma and Certificate programmes

The amount you are eligible for is determined by your:

  1. Cost of Attendance (COA)
  2. Minus any bursary, sponsorship or any other financial aid, including a FISB (faculty international student bursary)
  3. Your effective family contribution (EFC)
  4. Plus loan & private loan up to your COA (with a clear credit record)

Research work / dissertation

Students are not eligible to receive federal aid when studying, conducting research or writing up the dissertation in the U.S.

Exception: Independent research during a Doctorate degree programme can be conducted in a facility in USA strictly only under the guidance of UCT and for only one academic period.
