MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program

In December 2013, the University of Cape Town partnered with the MasterCard Foundation in its Global Scholars Program; an initiative that will provide academically talented yet economically disadvantaged young people from developing countries – particularly from Africa – with access to quality and relevant secondary and university education.  The MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Cape Town “Developing First Generation African Leaders” will facilitate the development of the next generation of transformative leaders by enabling 300 young leaders to pursue undergraduate and postgraduate studies at UCT over a period of ten years.

UCT’s partnership with The MasterCard Foundation will build on and strengthen the university’s strategic position, and in particular, its ability to achieve its strategic Goals of ‘Internationalising UCT via an Afropolitan Niche.’ In line with its vision and mandate to “Empower Internationalisation at UCT,’ IAPO is the institutional hub of the Program. The Scholars’ Program will be one globally branded program with distinct executions at the secondary and university levels. In devising The MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program at UCT,  the University recognises the powerful impact of a scholarship programme to transform the lives of Africans in Africa.
